Some say that using dual screens improves productivity by a two digit percentage. While that has never been proven scientifically, it may still have its benefits besides the productivity increase. Acer, a company never shy to trying out new things, recently revealed a prototype of a dual screen laptop. Before you start thinking about a weird looking laptop with two 15 inch screens, look at these screenshots.
The dual screen laptop prototype would make use of two 15 inch touch screens, of which one would replace the traditional laptop keyboard and mouse. While that’s certainly a cool idea, it raises some questions. First, we all know that a touch keyboard is not the ideal keyboard to write long text passages on. It would certainly diminish the value of the laptop if there would not be an option to connect an external keyboard and mouse to the laptop.
Second, power consumption will certainly be a problem. Two touchscreen monitors will drain lots of power, which suggests that the laptop will fall into the desktop replacement category, rather than the portable one.
According to our sources, the laptop may or may not come into production in 2011. It currently sports a 2.66 GHz Core i5 Intel cpu and runs on Windows 7. Additional details about the hardware are not available at this time.
